We never take our Texas music for granted. But sometimes, it takes reaction from outside the state for us to truly appreciate just how unique the Texas “sound” can be.

Case in point: The Flatlanders performed Sunday in Salt Lake City, Utah. The trio, composed of Joe Ely, Jimmie Dale Gilmore and Butch Hancock, played before an audience at the State Room there. The Salt Lake Tribune reviewed the performance. The reporter called it “a fun concert featuring real country music from veteran Texas troubadours.”

It’s always refreshing to hear how much music fans in other parts of the country really enjoy hearing Texas music and musicians. To read the complete review of the performance, visit
