The man accused of crashing his plane into the IRS offices in Austin Thursday morning had roots in Texas music.

Joe Stack was a member of the Billy Eli Band, based in Austin. The band has traveled around the country performing their Texas tunes.

Stack is listed as co-engineer on the band’s latest album, Amped Out. He also played bass and accordion, and provided some vocals.

Billy Eli has released two comments today on his Twitter account concerning the incident involving his bandmate.

“I woke up today and the world made sense. Then it didn’t. My friend and former bandmate Joe Stack was a great, friendly, easygoing, normal guy.”

In a second Tweet, Eli added, “We will miss him and we are heartbroken for his family and for the pain that must have been in him.”
