AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas heat is on, and that means it’s time for beaches, cold beverages and a new summer anthem — and Phillip Thomas has written the perfect one. It’s even called “Summer Fun.” A Texas country tune full of good-time grooves and a sand- and sun-kissed vibe, “Summer Fun” is destined to become one of the sounds of summer for 2013. “It’s about getting together
with great friends at the lake or the beach, and having that summer love story,” Thomas says of the cut. He plans to share it with many new friends during a summer tour with his band, which includes a July 5 date with Kevin Fowler at the inaugural Stars and Stripes Beach Bash on South Padre Island. The 7 p.m. show takes place at Clayton’s Beach Bar and Grill, 6900 Padre Blvd. For tickets and information, call 956.827.8349 or click claytonsbeachbar.com. Already a seasoned touring artist who performs more than 100 shows a year, Thomas started hitting the road only five years ago, at 19 — just two years after his first live performance. Since then, he’s shared stages with Jack Ingram, Robert Earl Keen and Reckless Kelly, among others. Hailing from the Rio Grande Valley, Thomas claims musical influences from country hero George Strait to the
Tejano and conjunto he heard growing up, as well as rock and hip-hop. Co-produced by Thomas and A.J. Vallejo, the single reaches radio today; it also will appear on Thomas’ upcoming album, slated for fall release.
