Texas Swing Festival to Honor Gimble

Johnny Gimble is regarded as “the best American fiddle player, period.” On May 28, the Swing Festival in Athens. Five bands that personify Texas Swing will play during the event. Music starts at noon. It culminates with “a Case of the Gimbles”: Johnny Gimble, his son Dick on bass, and his granddaughter, Emily, on piano and vocals.
Last year saw the first Texas Swing Festival. It was an outgrowth of the Old Fiddler’s Reunion in Athens, which Johnny Gimble attended many times. This year’s Texas Swing Festival features acts that express themselves in the genre that mixes country and jazz.
