The Quebe Sisters Band (Grace, Sophia and Hulda Quebe, Joey McKenzie, and Drew Phelps) recently traveled to Tennessee to play several shows. While there, they also recorded a 30-minute episode of The Mary Stuart Show which will air on RFD-TV on April 25th at 7 PM Central Time. Sherry McKenzie, QSB Entertainment, reports that it was like being on a “…hip Hew Haw [with] sparkly suits, vintage country music, square dancers , guest artists, a gospel tune and plenty of hay bales on the stage!” She also says that Marty Stuart has a really cool band.
For those readers that haven’t seen or heard the Quebe Sisters Band, you are missing a real treat. They sing in a three-part harmony that brings to life the work of Bob Wills, the Sons of the Pioneers, Billy Jack Wills, Spade Cooley, Andy Parker and the Plainsmen, the Quintet of the Hot Club of France, Benny Goodman’s various groups, Ray Price and the Cherokee Cowboys, the Mills Brothers, the Boswell Sisters, the Andrews Sisters, the Beatles and Hot Rize. To top it off, the girls entertain the audience with some awesome fiddle work supported by Joey McKenzie on guitar and Drew Phelps on the upright bass. All five members of the band are excellent musicians in their own right – as a band they are truly entertaining.
The Texas Music Journal first reported on the Quebe Sisters in the March 9th article on the Asleep at the Wheel show, “A Ride With Bob” where the band played an integral role in the development of the show. Watch the Texas Music Journal for more on the band in the near future.
