Editor’s Note: The following comes from a charity I have seen in action. Smiles Charity is a group of people who are constantly working to help those in need. And the concerts are always fantastic!
Also appearing on stage will be local favorites Maylee Thomas Band and teen band sensation, Lantic. The Memorial Day concert event will include a flyover by WWII era planes; kids’ area with bounce houses, games, and activities; local food and drink vendors; veterans’ wall dedicated to fallen Texas military heroes; and spectacular fireworks display.
The concert event is made possible by local sponsors Torchmark, Raytheon, Crest Auto Group, Dr. Buchanan Orthodontics, Baylor Medical Center McKinney, and Simpson Strong-Tie. Their support allows Smiles Charity to organize an event which draws thousands together for a great cause.
While admission is free, Smiles Charity will be accepting donations throughout the event to help build homes for severely wounded veterans. Cash and credit cards will be accepted for all donations, concessions, and $5 entrance fee for the kids’ area. Net proceeds from this year’s event will help build mortgage-free homes for Andrew Litz and Augie Pena. Please visit www.smilescharity.org for more information about how these two patriots not only served their country in combat, but also as hometown heroes upon their returns.
Supporters are encouraged to volunteer during the concert as hundreds of volunteers are needed to make the concert and festival a safe and successful event. Please register to volunteer at www.smilescharity.org and click on the volunteer tab.
Celebrate Memorial Day in McKinney on Sunday May 27th while enjoying this family-friendly concert and show your support for America’s military heroes with a generous donation. The concert will be held rain or shine. Feel free to bring blankets and lawn chairs, but coolers and pets are not allowed.
Smiles Charity was founded in 2008 to help build homes for local families in need, with current housing projects for wounded veterans. The results are tangible: Three homes have been built, three more are under construction and nearing completion, and two more homes will be started in 2012. Its mission is to bring the community together to change the world one home, one family at a time.
