I have been reading in recent days about the truly wonderful efforts to raise money to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey in Houston and along the Gulf coast. Millions of dollars are pouring in from around the country. Often, these big efforts tend to overshadow some of the smaller – but equally important – works being done. Today, I would like to point out the remarkable success of a landmark club in Dallas.

David Card

“We’re going to make this happen – who’s in?” That was the simple statement David Card put out on Facebook a few days after Harvey slammed the coast. Card is owner of Poor David’s Pub, just outside of downtown Dallas. Immediately, the responses poured in. He had a lot of acts to choose from. Some big named could not make it this past Saturday, but promised to come at future dates to continue to raise money.

The result? More than $4,000. Not bad for a local club, short notice, with publicity primarily through social media. Texas Music Reporter would like to salute David and his efforts. He truly understands the meaning of the work community.
