Country rock pioneers the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band will play the historic stage of the Municipal Auditorium in Downtown Greenville on February 27th as The Kenneth Threadgill Concert Series opens its seventh season.
With four Grammys and over forty years of making music with integrity, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band has a full catalog of country and pop hits, from “Mr. Bojangles” to “Baby’s Got a Hold on Me”, “Fishin’ in the Dark”, “Dance Little Jean”, “Long Hard Road” and many others.
Perhaps the band’s most enduring work is Will the Circle Be Unbroken. Volume I of Circle was a landmark event that is the original roots music collection. The album was certified platinum and is in the Grammy Hall of Fame. Touring in support of their first studio album in five years, 2009’s excellent Speed of Life, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band continues to embody American roots music with a unique sound that mixes country, bluegrass, gospel, folk and rock.
Opening for the Dirt Band will be Kerrville New Folk finalist Zane Williams. The Abilene native is back in Texas music life after several fruitful years honing his craft in Nashville. Williams is the winner of several songwriting awards, including the 2006 Song of the Year and the 2008 “Lennon Award” in the John Lennon Song Contest. His new album The Right Place was produced by Radney Foster and is getting heavy airplay on KHYI 95.3 FM in the Range in the Dallas area. Williams and his four piece band have a country-folk sound that will be the perfect lead in to the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.
