MARBLE FALLS, Texas — With a career that has carried him to many parts of the world, award-winning singer/songwriter john Arthur martinez knows better than most that there’s no place like home. To showcase his community’s array of artists and raise funds for
music education, he and renowned conductor/producer Robert Linder have organized the inaugural FiestaJAM on Lake Marble Falls, a three-day music and wine festival taking place Oct. 17-19, 2014. Festival events are slated at several Marble Falls venues; the main event, an afternoon concert and wine/beer tasting on Saturday, Oct. 18 at Lakeside Park, will feature nine local vintners and two craft brewers, with john Arthur martinez & Tejas, Vallejo, Los Aztex featuring Joel Guzman & Sarah Fox, and Brady Beal performing. That evening, the music moves to local restaurants and clubs; Sunday, native son Rex Paul Schnelle will host a gospel show. The festival kicks off with a Friday-night Patrons of the Arts VIP reception at Uptown on Main featuring performances by Mike Blakely, Alex Harvey, Joel Guzman and martinez. Tickets for Saturday and Sunday events are $40, including 10 tasting coupons; Saturday-only tickets are $35; Sunday-only tickets are $10. VIP packages, with two passes to all events including the Friday reception, are $150. Children 12 and under will be admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Tickets will be available starting Sept. 6 at etix.com or 800.514.3849. More event information is available at fiestajam.org. “With so much musical talent around me, from Grammy-winning performers and songwriters to amazing newcomers, I felt driven to create a festival celebrating this vast array of talent and to give back to the next generation of musical dreamers,” says martinez. “Robert Linder shared my vision, and FiestaJAM is the result.” The event also recognizes the Hill Country wine region’s growing popularity; Wine Enthusiast magazine ranked it No. 3 on its 2014 list of the world’s top 10 wine travel destinations, ahead of Sonoma, Calif. and renowned spots in Italy, France, Argentina and Australia. Vintner Rick Naber, owner of Flat Creek Estate and chairman of the event’s wine committee, says, “We wanted the best local wineries and craft brewers to be represented at a local music and wine festival benefiting local music education programs. Exceptional music, wine and beer, plus the wonderful Lake Marble Falls setting, are the ingredients for a perfect fall weekend.” Adds Bill Rives, executive director of the Marble Falls/Lake LBJ Chamber of Commerce: “Marble Falls is a wonderful place to live, work and play, and festivals such as FiestaJAM on Lake Marble Falls can only enhance our reputation as the brightest jewel in Texas’ Hill Country.” FiestaJAM proceeds will benefit music programs at Marble Falls Independent School District and the nonprofit Harmony School of Creative Arts.
