17 May 10 Awards Provide Wealth of Texas Music Stories Waiting to Be Told

I think it is safe to say that most everyone knows that Texas is a hotbed for music. That is one of the reasons, for example, that Texas Music Reporter is even in existence. Saturday’s Texas Music Awards provided an example of why we do what we do.

This year’s awards were presented in Marshall’s Civic Center.  The purpose of the Texas Music Awards is to honor members of the Academy of Texas Music, independent singers, songwriters and musicians who work to make this state known as the best source of entertainment in the country.

The vast majority of those who had been nominated were in attendance. And many of them had an opportunity to perform during the ceremonies. Every performance was a demonstration of what makes Texas music so special.

From the opening curtain, with Michael Martin Murphey performing with his son, Ryan (who would later win the Producer of the Year award) to the final concert performance by superstar BJ Thomas, audience members were entertained for more than five hours. And I believe most people would have stayed for more.

Texas Music Reporter was represented by a four-member team to provide in depth coverage – not just the event, but the people behind the event. In the coming days and weeks, we will bring you those stories, along with photographs and video.  I know I came away from the experience feeling great about Texas music. I hope you will, too, as you see our coverage.
