Rodgers Gives Texas Music a Bitter Suite Experience

By Tamara Loggins Carmen Rogers is a singer/songwriter hailing from the Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitian area. Her lyrics are filled with a bittersweet understanding of romantic relationships. She has this soulful voice that shines through, and reminds me of Mary J. Blige. I have mixed feelings about this album. It’s short, coming in at eight songs in length, but made all the shorter with three dialogue tracks discussing life’s tribulations and relationship matters. As much as I like songs about these issues for the common person, it came off as a little preachy. Carmen has such an amazing voice, and her music strikes a chord in me; so, I’d much rather hear her music than anything else. This album lacks the impact that some others have, but her music is beautiful and tragic. If Carmen can get away from the preachy speeches, and stick to singing about these problems, she will be a force to be reckoned with. Those of you R‘n’B lovers out there, keep an eye out for Carmen, or invest in her debut album. The songs that are there are absolutely breathtaking.
