09 Mar 10 Getting Ready for a Texas Music Revolution

As I sit here this morning in my office, I am surrounded by signs of music. One wall is covered – literally – with CD’s and music DVD’s. Behind me is my song writing area, complete with keyboard, acoustic guitar and bass. And on another wall hang various framed pictures.  I have autographed posters from Heidi Newfield, BJ Thomas, Jim Stafford – remember “Spiders and Snakes” –  and Little Big Town. I have my certificate as a regional coordinator for the Nashville Songwriters Association. I have a photograph of myself and co-writer, Gary Tullier, performing a song for the Collin County Songwriters Association. I have the lyrics to a song called “24,” an anniversary gift to my wife. I even have a painting of myself performing with my group, the Black Prairie Band.

So why am I telling you this? It’s because of the one poster hanging in the corner. It’s the first musical thing I put on the wall when I converted this spare bedroom into my “music room.” It’s a poster – a gift from my wife. She found it shortly after I started writing songs. It’s a poster advertising a festival from five years ago, if my math is correct. It is for the ninth Texas Music Revolution.

I have never attended this event. However, I think I may try to make it to the 14th annual TMR. It is coming up March 21, and will be held at the Southfork Ranch, east of Plano. Music begins at noon. It is once again sponsored by KHYI radio and Shiner Bock, just as it was on my poster five years ago.

Headlining the festival will be Leon Russell. Also performing are Merrol Ray and the Regulators, John David Kent, Two Tons of Steel, Grant Jones and the Pistol Grip Lassos (an interesting name – I may ask them where it comes from), Zane Williams, Brandon Jenkins, Hayes Carll, Walt Wilkens, Max Stalling, Band of Heathens, Seth James, Somebody’s Darling, and more.

I think I may take my poster with me this year. I see Stalling performed five years ago, as well. Maybe I can get an autograph.
